Our passion is to limit our impact to the environment, the Watkinson’s Cabinet Makers workshop is run as efficiently as possible. Extraordinarily little waste leaves the workshop, our shavings are recycled by a local farmer. The short ends of timber are turned into our crafts and plaques and some of the off cuts that we can’t use on any of our other projects are burned in our wood burner to keep the staff warm in the winter months. To keep us lit up well and save energy we have changed all our lighting to LED which saves on power
Ian places high importance on protecting the environment, obtaining timber supplies from FSC and PEFC certified sustainably managed forests.
The paints we use depend on the project we are working on. They vary from low odour solvent based products to the latest water-based paints and lacquers. We can match any of the paint manufacturers colours whether its Farrow and Ball, Little Green or Paper and Paint Library any colour as well as any other paint, all we need is a name or code.
We are currently working on a showroom and looking to open it in 2021. All customers are welcome to visit the workshop where we have samples and there will always be a project on the go to view the quality of our workmanship. This also a chance to see where it all happens!
Planting Trees
Our proudest environmental policy is a new tree planting venture. For every project we complete we are planting a tree. Each customer will have their own tree, once a project is completed it will have a branded mark with a unique number which is relevant to the tree we plant. The trees will be planted to create pockets of woodland in the area with native hardwoods.
We also invite customers to plant their own tree if they would like to! This can be arranged as a family event or in memory of someone if you prefer. The aim is to grow lots of trees and create pockets of woodland. This is something we are particularly passionate about; we just want to give back to mother earth a little of what we have taken.
As we all know timber is renewable which is a great and trees give so much back to us, so, we feel its only right that we replenish what we have used. It is especially important we now give back more than we take.
We are aiming to be Carbon neutral by 2025, who knows we may even make it to carbon negative!
